About Wabi Sabi Timepieces
Time. Imperfectly Perfect.
Wabi Sabi Timepieces was founded by Akio Hayashi — a Japanese designer known for blending quiet philosophy with the precision of timekeeping. Born in Kyoto in 1959, Hayashi grew up surrounded by craftsmanship: his father restored temple clocks, and his mother practiced calligraphy.
From those early days, he absorbed a truth that would shape his life’s work — that beauty does not lie in perfection, but in presence, simplicity, and impermanence.
“We do not measure time to control it — we wear it to remember that every moment is already enough.”
— Akio Hayashi
The Wabi Sabi Philosophy
Our name and identity come from Wabi Sabi (侘寂) — the Japanese worldview that celebrates the beauty of imperfection, impermanence, and authenticity.
Wabi represents simplicity, humility, and natural elegance.
Sabi speaks of aging, patina, and the grace that time gives to all things.
Together, they form the essence of our work:
a belief that true luxury is not flawless — it’s human.
Each Wabi Sabi timepiece is designed to age with its wearer, gaining depth, character, and individuality. Every scratch, every reflection of light, becomes a memory recorded in metal.
Design Language
The Wabi Sabi logo — a hand-painted ensō circle enclosing a minimalist hourglass — symbolizes our philosophy of time in motion: ever fleeting, yet eternally beautiful.
The color #343C56, used throughout our design language, reflects quiet sophistication — the deep blue-gray of dusk ink on Japanese washi paper.
Our watches combine Japanese restraint with European refinement: textured dials, balanced asymmetry, and precision mechanical or hybrid movements that remind us of the poetry within each second.
The House of Wabi Sabi
Today, under Akio Hayashi’s guidance, Wabi Sabi Timepieces operates as a house of design — uniting a family of brands that express the same soul at different levels of craftsmanship.
1. Akio Hayashi Private Line
Hand-assembled in limited editions, these watches are crafted for collectors and connoisseurs.
Each piece bears Hayashi’s personal signature and embodies his vision of time as art — blending brushed titanium, hand-lacquered dials, and organic imperfections that make every watch unique.
2. Wabi Sabi Studio
Our core collection, offering timeless designs inspired by the founder’s philosophy, made with the same attention to proportion, material, and detail. These watches are refined yet approachable, balancing tradition with contemporary aesthetics.
3. Wabi Sabi Elements
A subsidiary line that brings the essence of wabi-sabi to everyone. Crafted with reliable movements and minimalist beauty, these watches celebrate design integrity without extravagance — because authenticity should not be a privilege.
From handcrafted masterpieces to everyday companions, every Wabi Sabi watch carries the same message:
time is not to be perfected — it is to be lived.
Our Agenda
We are not chasing trends; we are honoring moments.
Our agenda is to slow time, to remind the modern world that beauty exists in stillness, and that imperfection is not something to fix — it is something to cherish.
Through every design, Akio Hayashi seeks to create objects that feel alive, that evolve with touch, wear, and memory.
Our watches are not meant to resist time — they are meant to belong to it.
“True luxury is the harmony of time, simplicity, and authenticity.”
— Akio Hayashi
